Sketch Comedy Level 1 - Intro to Sketch Comedy (Saturdays, Jan 6 - Feb 17)
In this Sketch Writing Comedy Class, students will develop the fundamental skills they need to start writing original comedy sketches. Build your sketch toolkit with the essentials - how to come up with a sketch idea, how to employ classic sketch structure, how to create memorable characters, how to clearly communicate your ideas to your audience. Students will write multiple sketches during the course of this class, and will be guided through every step of the process with positive, hands-on instruction.
Feedback and collaboration are central to this class that is appropriate for brand new sketch writers or writers with some sketch experience who want to get back to basics.
All classes meet for 2 hours once per week for 6 weeks followed by a showcase. While enrolled, students can see Comedy Arena shows for FREE.

Jonda was a great teacher! I learned a lot and appreciated the step-by-step writing exercises and weekly email recaps that helped us go from studying sketch structure to developing original content in just a few weeks. I’ve taken comedy classes elsewhere and several at The Comedy Arena, and The Comedy Arena is hands-down the best place for “training wheels” to take someone from beginner to confident in just a few weeks. I can’t recommend their classes enough! I will definitely sign up for Sketch Level 2.
It was good class to learn how to write scripts and the basics of sketch. Jonda was great! Super patient while we learned and created the space to explore creatively. Not having a showcase at the end of class was a good idea! It really would have been too stressful, and I would not have felt prepared, if there was one. Overall, great class!
